Entropy Data: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Entropy Data, formerly Data Mesh Manager, is a marketplace and management tool for data products. Teams publish data products with a named owner, request and approve access, and write data contracts in the web interface, in YAML or through an API. Automated policy checks and CI/CD integration are included. The platform is offered as a cloud service, and its Community Edition can run on your own infrastructure. The separate Data Contract CLI is also open source.

The platform is developed by Entropy Data GmbH, a German company, and the vendor's public pages name no foreign parent. For the cloud version, the company states that all servers and data are hosted on Microsoft Azure within the EU Data Boundary. Enterprise customers can choose a single-tenant deployment in a selected data region or in their own cloud. The Community Edition is open source, but the platform as a whole is not described as open source. For European organisations, the stated hosting for the cloud service is within the EU, and a self-hostable edition is available.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Entropy Data

Entropy Data is headquartered in DE and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Entropy Data scores best on data residency.

Entropy Data is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Entropy Data together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
