Modoboa is an open-source mail server platform for organisations and individuals who want to run their own email. It bundles the components needed to install and secure a mail server, including webmail, calendars and address books, filtering rules, an auto-responder, administration statistics and a migration tool. It supports SPF, DKIM and DMARC for sender authentication. Modoboa is installed on a server that the operator controls, and the installer covers most of the setup.
The project is published by NGYNLABS, a single-member limited liability company (EURL) with its registered office in Nantes, France. The software is released under the ISC licence, as shown in the GitHub repository, so the code can be inspected and modified. Because it runs on infrastructure chosen by the operator, the organisation decides where its data is stored, and no vendor-hosted service is required. Paid professional services are offered. Operations, updates and backups remain the responsibility of the operator.
