Kopano Cloud is a groupware product for email, calendar, notes, tasks and contacts. It supports native Outlook, ActiveSync for mobile devices and POP3/IMAP. Administrators get a self-management interface, a REST API and an agent for synchronising LDAP or Active Directory. The product is delivered as a software stack of OCI containers (Docker) with a multi-tenant architecture. Kopano Cloud is the successor to Kopano Groupware, which descends from Zarafa; support for that older suite has ended.
Kopano Groupware was released under the AGPL-3 licence, but Kopano Cloud is not available under an open-source licence. Customers can host the containers where they choose; according to the vendor, data is then subject to the local privacy laws of the hosting location, so hosting in the EU means EU law. The hosting country is a choice of the customer or partner. European organisations can run it themselves or through a partner in a European data centre, but the source code of the current version cannot be freely inspected or forked.
