Parsec Cloud is software for sharing and storing sensitive files securely within organisations. According to the vendor, encryption keys are generated on the user's own device and file contents are encrypted before they leave it (zero-trust and zero-knowledge), so the server never sees readable data. It offers shared workspaces, file version history as protection against ransomware, and desktop and web clients. Parsec is available as SaaS and as an on-premises installation on Linux using Docker.
Parsec is developed by Scille SAS, a French company that is also the licensor of the source code. The code is published on GitHub under the Business Source License 1.1, which converts to the AGPLv3 on a set date; it is therefore source-available but not yet open source in the OSI sense. According to the vendor, customers choose where the service runs: with French hosting providers, on their own infrastructure, or a combination. For European organisations handling sensitive data, the on-premises option can keep data and keys entirely within their own jurisdiction.
