PowerFolder is a file sync, sharing and backup platform from dal33t GmbH. Users synchronise folders across devices, share files with internal and external partners and keep backups. The vendor names universities, public authorities and mid-sized companies as its audience. It also offers browser-based editing of Office files through ONLYOFFICE and an optional AI add-on for document analysis (WingMan). The platform is available as a hosted cloud and for self-operation on your own hardware or in your own data centre; the Enterprise Edition adds support, clustering and multi-tenancy, among other things.
dal33t GmbH is based in Monheim am Rhein, Germany, and states that it has no US parent company. According to its privacy policy, the servers for the hosted service run exclusively in Germany, in two geo-redundant data centres. For billing and support it does use US-based processors such as Stripe and Atlassian; stored files are not sent there, according to the vendor. Only the client code is open source and viewable on GitHub. This lets European organisations share files without depending on a non-European provider.
