Safari is Apple's web browser for Mac, iPhone and iPad. It is built into macOS, iOS, iPadOS and visionOS and runs on Apple's WebKit engine. Apple highlights privacy features such as Intelligent Tracking Prevention, a Privacy Report on blocked trackers, private browsing, passkey sign-in and automatic upgrades from HTTP to HTTPS. Through iCloud, Safari syncs passwords, bookmarks, history, tabs and the Reading List across a user's Apple devices. Safari is delivered as part of the operating system. A Windows version, which Apple offered from 2007 to 2012, has been discontinued.
Apple is headquartered in Cupertino, California, in the United States, so US law such as the CLOUD Act can apply to data held by Apple, including iCloud data used for Safari sync. Safari itself is proprietary freeware, although WebKit, its engine, is open source under LGPL and BSD-style licences. Organisations that sync Safari data through iCloud should check where and how Apple stores that data.
