Survio: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Survio is an online survey platform for individuals, businesses and organisations. Users build surveys from templates and designs, distribute them by link, QR code, email or website embed, and review results as automatic charts with filters. The business edition, Survio PRO, adds team management, single sign-on, custom dashboards, integrations and API access. Survio is a web service: surveys are created and completed in the browser, including on mobile devices.

Survio is provided by Survio s.r.o. in Brno, Czech Republic, and is a member of the ABUGO Group. According to its privacy policy, all data is stored on servers within the European Union, and hosting is provided by NETHOST s.r.o. in Brno. For respondent data that users store with it, Survio acts as a processor. For bulk email delivery Survio uses Twilio in the United States, which involves transferring email addresses to a third country. The product is not open source and is offered only as a web service. For a European organisation, the vendor and the hosting are therefore located within the EU.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Survio

Survio is headquartered in CZ and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Survio scores best on data residency.

Survio is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Survio together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
