Typebot: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Typebot is a no-code builder for chatbots and conversational forms with a visual flow editor. It offers dozens of building blocks (text, images, buttons, date pickers, payment inputs), conditional logic, theming, hidden fields and integrations with tools such as OpenAI, Google Sheets and Zapier. Bots are published through a custom domain, an embedded container, a popup, a chat bubble or WhatsApp. Analytics cover drop-off and completion rates, with CSV export. Typebot is offered as a managed cloud service and can also be self-hosted with Docker and a Postgres database.

The source code is publicly available on GitHub under the Functional Source License. This allows you to run and modify Typebot yourself for almost all purposes, but not to offer it to others as a hosted service; after two years the code converts to Apache 2.0. The operator is Typebot SASU, a company form under French law. The cloud version relies on several subprocessors, as listed in the vendor's privacy policy. Organisations that want full control over data location can self-host on servers inside the EU.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Typebot

Typebot is headquartered in FR and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Typebot hosts data in EU, OTHER. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Typebot is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Typebot together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
