Vertex is a US software company focused on indirect tax. Its platform supports sales and use tax and VAT determination, returns and reporting, e-invoicing and audit readiness. It is aimed at the finance and tax departments of mid-sized and large organisations and, according to the vendor, integrates with systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft, Shopify, NetSuite and Workday. The solution is delivered through Vertex Cloud, a web environment hosted by Vertex.
Vertex Inc. is headquartered in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, in the United States, and has no foreign parent company. According to the Vertex Trust Center, its cloud infrastructure runs with subprocessors such as AWS (United States, Ireland, Germany), Microsoft (United States) and Oracle (United States, Switzerland, Germany); it does not state which provider hosts which customer data. Vertex says it will enter into a data processing agreement and publishes a subprocessor list. For a European organisation this means tax data is processed by a US vendor, so US legislation such as the CLOUD Act may apply.
