Yahoo Mail is a webmail service from Yahoo, launched in 1997. It can be used in a browser, through a mobile app and through third-party email clients using POP, IMAP and SMTP. Other email accounts can be connected to the inbox. It is free for personal use, with additional features available for a monthly fee. It also includes tools for managing receipts, subscriptions and packages, and more recently AI features such as message summaries.
Yahoo is a US company; Wikipedia lists Sunnyvale, California as its location. Since September 2021, Apollo Global Management has held a majority stake through its funds, with Verizon holding a minority interest. For EU/EEA users, Yahoo EMEA Limited and Yahoo International Limited are the entities named in Yahoo's data-transfer policy, which lists destinations including the United States, the United Kingdom, India and Canada. The service is proprietary. The pages consulted do not state where mailboxes are stored. For confidential business email, a service with contractual commitments on location and processing is preferable.
