ZBrush is digital sculpting software for 3D artists who create characters, creatures, props and hard-surface models. Users shape high-resolution models with an extensive brush system, paint surfaces directly with PolyPaint, and render with Best Preview Render or the integrated Redshift CPU renderer. ZBrush is installed locally on Windows, macOS and iPadOS, and a single licence covers desktop and iPad use.
ZBrush was created by Pixologic, which Maxon acquired in January 2022. It is now sold by Maxon Computer GmbH, part of the Nemetschek Group, a German software group based in Munich. The software is proprietary and not open source. Modelling takes place in a locally installed application rather than a hosted service, while account and licence services are provided by the vendor. The sources consulted do not state where those services are hosted.
