Zoho Corporation is a privately held company headquartered in Chennai, India, and says it has never taken outside investment; it also has offices in the US. Customer data is held in the Zoho data centre tied to the domain on which the account was registered. Zoho lists data centres in the US, Europe, India, Australia, Japan, Canada and Saudi Arabia, and each data centre holds only the data of users registered on that domain. For customer data, Zoho acts as a processor. The software is proprietary. For a European organisation, the choice of the European data centre at sign-up therefore determines where data is stored.
