Zotero is a reference manager for researchers, students and libraries. It collects bibliographic references from web pages and books, stores them with PDFs and notes, organises them with collections and tags, and creates citations and bibliographies through word-processor integration. It runs as a desktop application on your own computer, with a browser connector for saving sources, and the library lives locally on your device.
Zotero is a project of Digital Scholar (the Corporation for Digital Scholarship), a non-profit organisation in the United States. It was created at the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University and is developed by a global community. The source code is published under the GNU Affero General Public License. Syncing between devices is optional and uses Zotero's servers, where all server data is stored in the United States on Amazon Web Services. Without syncing, your library is not uploaded to Zotero's servers.
