Zwift is a virtual platform for cycling and running. Users connect a smart trainer or bike and train in a digital world with workouts, training plans, routes, group rides, events and races. The service consists of an app for computer, phone or TV, complemented by a companion app and related hardware. It is a vendor-hosted service that requires an account.
Zwift, Inc. is headquartered in Long Beach, California (United States) and is privately held. According to its own GDPR privacy policy, Zwift, Inc. acts as controller for users in the EEA and the United Kingdom. The privacy policy states that data is held with cloud providers but names no region. For a European organisation, for example one running a corporate fitness programme, this means health and activity data is processed by a US provider that is subject to US law, including the CLOUD Act. No EU storage option is described.
