Akamai Connected Cloud, formerly Linode, is Akamai's cloud IaaS platform. It offers virtual machines (Linodes) in several plan types, including dedicated CPU, shared CPU, high memory and GPU, and LKE for managed Kubernetes clusters. It also provides block storage, S3-compatible object storage, backups, NodeBalancers for load balancing, Cloud Firewalls, a DNS Manager and private VLANs. The services are consumed as a hosted cloud and are available in multiple regions worldwide.
Akamai Technologies is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts (US) and acquired Linode, the Philadelphia-based cloud company, in a deal announced in February 2022. According to the documentation, the European regions include Frankfurt, London, Milan, Paris, Amsterdam, Stockholm and Madrid. Because the parent company is American, the service falls within the reach of US legislation such as the CLOUD Act, even when you choose a European region. The platform is not open source, although Linode's origins were strongly oriented towards open source.
