Blackfire is a profiling and performance monitoring service for PHP and Python applications. Developers measure at function or line level where a web application spends time and memory, monitor performance continuously in production and include performance tests in CI/CD. Frameworks such as Symfony, Laravel and Django are supported. A probe on the customer's own servers sends profiles to the Blackfire service, which shows them in a web interface. It is an alternative to APM services such as New Relic or Tideways.
Blackfire is a trademark of Platform.sh SAS, trading as Upsun, a French company headquartered in Paris; Blackfire joined forces with Platform.sh in 2021. The privacy notice also names a US affiliate, Platform.sh Inc., which participates in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The legal notice states that the website is hosted by Amazon Web Services in Ireland; Amazon is a US company. The company says the service has been audited by an external expert for GDPR compliance. A European organisation should check where profile data is stored and which processing terms apply.
