Fing: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Fing is a network scanner and device-recognition tool that helps individuals and IT professionals find, identify and monitor the devices on a home or office network. It is offered as Fing Desktop, a mobile app, Fing Agent for round-the-clock monitoring (for example on a Raspberry Pi, a NAS or in Docker) and Fing Web. Functions include a device inventory, alerts about new devices, outages and vulnerabilities, internet-access controls and speed tests.

Fing Limited is an Irish company with its registered address in Dublin. Lansweeper, an IT asset management company headquartered in Ghent, Belgium, acquired Fing in October 2020. In July 2026 Bridgepoint announced an agreement to take a majority stake in Lansweeper; Dovesco keeps a minority investment, and closing is expected by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approval. Fing's privacy statement does not say where its data is stored, so ask the vendor about hosting before relying on its cloud features.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Fing

Fing is headquartered in IE and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data. The ultimate owner is based in BE, also within Europe.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Fing scores best on data residency.

Fing is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Fing together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
