MRTG, the Multi Router Traffic Grapher, is a free tool that polls SNMP-enabled network devices and draws graphs of the traffic on each interface. It runs on Unix and Linux, Windows and NetWare, and is written in Perl. Although built for network traffic, it has also been used to graph other kinds of numeric data. It is distributed as software for installation on the user's own systems, not as a hosted service.

MRTG is maintained by Tobias Oetiker and published by OETIKER+PARTNER AG, an IT services firm based in Olten, Switzerland. The software is free software under the GNU General Public Licence, so it can be inspected, changed and run without a licence fee or vendor account. Because the operator runs it on their own infrastructure, the operator decides where monitoring data is stored. For a European organisation this makes MRTG a self-operated option with Swiss origin, and the maintainer is based outside US jurisdiction.
