Forward Email is an email service that provides domain forwarding, encrypted mailboxes, outbound SMTP and an API for sending and receiving mail on custom domains. Calendar and contact synchronisation are also offered. The service is delivered as hosted software, and its source code is published on GitHub so that users can inspect it. According to the vendor, forwarded mail is processed in memory and never written to disk.

Forward Email LLC is a US company, and its terms of service are governed by the laws of Delaware, so US jurisdiction applies. The data processing agreement lists sub-processors that are mainly located in the United States, including Cloudflare, DigitalOcean, Vultr and Stripe, and one hosting provider with infrastructure in the US and the United Kingdom. For a European organisation, personal data is therefore processed outside the EU. The code is published under the Business Source License 1.1 together with the Mozilla Public License 2.0, which is source-available rather than an open source licence approved by the OSI.
