GoAccess is an open-source, real-time analyser for web server logs. It is written in C and reads the logs of common servers and services such as Apache, Nginx, Amazon S3, CloudFront and Caddy. By default it shows its report in the terminal, which is handy for quick analysis over SSH, and it can also produce a self-contained real-time HTML report, as well as JSON and CSV output. Besides traffic statistics, it helps to spot suspicious activity such as scanners, bots and brute-force attempts. GoAccess is not a hosted service: you install it yourself on Linux, BSD or macOS.
GoAccess is released under the MIT licence; Wikipedia names Gerardo O. as its creator, and the first release dates from 2010. Because it is software that you run on your own infrastructure and that analyses your own server logs, there is no vendor platform in between and no vendor that receives your visitor data. A European organisation therefore decides itself where the logs and reports are stored and for how long.
