Gripp: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Gripp, marketed as Exact Gripp, is a Dutch software-as-a-service platform for professional service providers such as marketing, communication, content, engineering and architecture agencies. It combines quotes, project administration, planning and capacity, time tracking, invoicing (including recurring and retainer invoices) and customer relations in one tool, with a mobile app, an AI support agent and integrations with other tools. Gripp is based in Tilburg.

Exact, headquartered in Delft, acquired Gripp in April 2021, and gripp.com now redirects to Exact's website. Exact has been majority-owned by the US private equity firm KKR since 2019, with Silver Lake holding a minority stake, so the ultimate parent sits outside the EU, which is a CLOUD-Act signal. The vendor's product page does not state where Exact Gripp is hosted, and the software is not offered as open source. A European organisation should therefore confirm the hosting location and the sub-processors in its data processing agreement.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Gripp

Gripp is headquartered in NL and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data. The ultimate owner is based in US. Foreign control undermines part of the certainty a European headquarters offers.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Gripp scores best on data residency.

Gripp is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Gripp together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
