HashiCorp Nomad is a workload orchestrator that schedules and manages containers, non-containerised applications and virtual machines, both on-premises and in the cloud. It is aimed at platform and DevOps teams looking for a scheduler alongside or instead of Kubernetes. According to the project documentation it integrates natively with Consul and Vault, and you install and operate it yourself on your own clusters. A commercial Enterprise edition adds further features.
Nomad is developed by HashiCorp, headquartered in the United States and now part of IBM, also a US company. The source code is published on GitHub under the Business Source License 1.1, which is source-available rather than open source in the OSI sense, and carries usage conditions. Because you run the software on your own infrastructure, you decide where workloads and data reside. The vendor's ownership still matters for support, licensing terms and product direction, and a US parent company can be subject to the US CLOUD Act.
