Kamaji is an open-source project, licensed under Apache 2.0, that runs the control plane of Kubernetes clusters as hosted components inside a shared management cluster. Platform teams use it to offer many isolated tenant clusters from one infrastructure. It is built on upstream Kubernetes components and kubeadm, and it is maintained by CLASTIX, which also offers the commercial kMetal platform and related Kubernetes multi-tenancy tooling. Kamaji is delivered as software that the organisation installs and operates itself.
CLASTIX is an Italian company registered as CLASTIX SRL in Naples, and its privacy policy refers explicitly to the GDPR. According to the vendor, kMetal runs on infrastructure the customer controls. Because Kamaji is open source, its code can be inspected and run by the customer, so an organisation keeps the option of operating it on its own or on European infrastructure. The privacy policy notes that CLASTIX uses US service providers such as Google, Salesforce and GitHub for its own operations. The vendor does not state where CLASTIX itself stores data.
