Microsoft Power Automate is a Microsoft service for optimising business processes and automating repetitive tasks. Users build cloud flows that connect apps and services to synchronise files, send notifications or collect data, with the help of Copilot, templates, approvals and process mining. Desktop flows extend the platform to robotic process automation (RPA) for tasks on workstations, including legacy applications, web applications and Excel. It is delivered as a cloud service, complemented by a Windows application for desktop flows.
Microsoft is a US company, so the service falls under US jurisdiction, including the CLOUD Act. Microsoft has committed to storing and processing Power Automate customer data and personal data within the EU Data Boundary. For certain cloud flows created before November 2024, some pseudonymised personal data is temporarily transferred outside the EU; administrators can bring it inside the boundary with a migration tool. The product is not open source.
