Open Web Analytics (OWA) is an open-source web analytics framework intended as an alternative to commercial tools such as Google Analytics. The server is written in PHP and tracks visitors, page views, e-commerce transactions and custom actions across several websites from a single instance. It includes a JavaScript tracker, customisable reports, heatmaps, Domstream session recordings, a REST API and a WordPress plugin. You install and operate OWA yourself.
OWA is released under the GNU GPL (version 2 or later) and was created by Peter Adams, who holds the copyright. The sources name no commercial provider with its own cloud service: you host the software yourself, so the data stays on your own infrastructure, in the region you choose. No external service provider then has access to the data; security, updates and GDPR compliance rest entirely with your own organisation. The sources state no country of establishment for the project.
