Quicksy is a messaging app for Android and iOS built on the open XMPP (Jabber) protocol, spun off from the XMPP clients Conversations and Monal. Users register with their phone number, which also serves as the username and is verified by SMS. Contacts in the address book are matched against other Quicksy users in a shared directory, so contacts are found quickly. Because Quicksy is a full XMPP client, you can message users on any publicly federating XMPP server. The website strongly recommends OMEMO encryption. Offline messages and message archiving are supported.
The source code of the Android app, the iOS app (Monal) and the Quicksy server is public. The site names Daniel Gultsch, project lead of Conversations, as contact for commercial support of the server software. According to the policy, the directory is a centralised component, and phone numbers are passed to the SMS providers Twilio and Vonage/Nexmo for verification. The hosting location and the operator are not stated.
