Doctolib Connect is a secure messenger for care teams and healthcare professionals, formerly sold as Siilo. Staff can exchange messages, photos, videos and files and make calls, through a mobile app or a web version. The service is aimed at hospitals, practices and other care organisations that need to coordinate work on personal devices. Siilo stated in 2021 that messages and calls are end-to-end encrypted.
The messenger is operated by Doctolib B.V., whose privacy office is in Amsterdam, a wholly owned subsidiary of the French company Doctolib SAS. In its privacy policy, Doctolib acts as data controller and undertakes to comply with European data protection rules. For customer and patient data, the policy names Amazon Web Services EMEA as the hosting provider, with servers in the EU, while some sub-processors are located in the United States. For a European organisation this means a service run by a European group, but with a US cloud provider in the supply chain, which should be assessed against its own processor requirements.
