ginlo is a secure messaging app in two versions. ginlo Business is aimed at organisations such as companies, medical practices, law firms, public bodies and schools, and adds central administration of users, licences and security rules through a Management Cockpit. ginlo Private is the free consumer version, advertised without ads or tracking. Both offer text, files, photos, voice messages, audio and video calls, self-deleting and scheduled messages, and use of a ginlo ID instead of a phone number. Business customers can roll out the app through an automated installation process. ginlo is provided as a vendor-hosted service.
ginlo.net GmbH is based in Munich, Germany. According to the vendor, its servers are located in Germany and hold ISO 27001 certification based on BSI IT-Grundschutz, and its privacy statement says processing outside the EEA does not take place as a rule. The vendor describes full encryption of messages and files on devices and on its servers, and states that it has no access to users' content. ginlo is proprietary software, not open source.
