Rucio is an open-source framework for scientific data management. It organises, manages and provides access to large volumes of data under configurable policies, spread across globally distributed and heterogeneous data centres that are presented as one federated system. Among other things it offers distributed data recovery and adaptive replication, and a client for uploading, downloading and managing files and datasets. Rucio is aimed at research communities such as high-energy physics, astronomy and biology, and is delivered as server software that you install yourself.
Rucio was originally built for the ATLAS experiment at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Geneva; the copyright notice on the project site is held by CERN. The source code is under the Apache 2.0 licence and is also listed in Germany's OpenCoDE software directory. Because you run Rucio yourself, data and metadata stay on the storage systems of your own organisation or collaboration. The pages consulted show no hosted service from the developers.
