Sensu is an observability pipeline built around monitoring as code. The software, Sensu Go, is written in Go and consists of a sensu-backend and sensu-agents that automatically register and deregister servers, containers and services. Checks and plugins are managed as declarative configuration and deployed with the sensuctl command-line tool. Sensu works with existing tools such as Nagios, StatsD, Telegraf and Prometheus. You install it yourself, for example with Docker or with binaries for Linux, macOS and Windows, anywhere from bare metal to Kubernetes.
Sensu has been part of Sumo Logic since 2021, following an acquisition announced in June 2021; the Sensu brand continues and the company says it remains committed to open source. The source code of Sensu Go is published on GitHub under the MIT licence. Because you run the software yourself, you decide where your monitoring data is stored; no vendor cloud service is required. Sensu itself says the product is made in Canada and the USA.
