Shynet is a self-hosted web analytics tool built on Django. It reports hits, sessions, bounce rate, referrers, operating system, browser, device type and approximate location, supports multiple users and sites, and does not use cookies to track visitors across sessions. Tracking relies on a script of under one kilobyte, with a 1x1 transparent pixel as a fallback where JavaScript is unavailable. Visitors with Do Not Track enabled are excluded by default. You run Shynet yourself: as a single Docker container on a small server, with Docker Compose, on Heroku, or scaled across a Kubernetes cluster.
Shynet is open source under the Apache License 2.0. It was created by Miles McCain, whose profile lists New York City, so the project originates in the United States. It is distributed for self-hosting, so analytics data stays on the infrastructure you choose, for example an EU server. Jurisdiction and data location then depend on your hosting provider and your own operation, not on a vendor. You are responsible for installation, updates and security.
