SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (NPM) is network monitoring software that tracks the availability, traffic and health of routers, switches, firewalls and wireless controllers from multiple vendors. It discovers devices over SNMP, builds topology maps and measures response time, packet loss, bandwidth use and hardware health. NPM is an Orion platform module and is offered as self-hosted software; the same capabilities are also part of SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted.
SolarWinds is a US company; its press releases are datelined Austin, Texas. Since April 2025 it has been privately held after the completion of its acquisition by Turn/River Capital, an investment firm based in San Francisco. Because NPM is installed on the customer's own infrastructure, monitoring data stays where the organisation runs it, in the EU if it chooses. NPM is commercial, proprietary software and not open source. European organisations should still review any vendor connectivity, licensing and update channels.
