Avaya Communication Manager is the call-processing core of the Avaya Aura platform, Avaya's enterprise voice and unified-communications platform. It handles call processing, user and system management, intelligent call routing and application integration. Aura also includes Session Manager for SIP routing, System Manager as the management console, a media server, and presence and messaging services. There are REST APIs and integrations with Microsoft Teams and Zoom, among others, and Avaya Call Center Elite for contact centres. According to Avaya, organisations can continue to run Aura on-premises; connected cloud services and managed services are also available.
Avaya is a US company headquartered in the United States and therefore falls under US jurisdiction, which is relevant for the CLOUD Act. After a Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2023 it passed into the hands of its former creditors. With an on-premises installation, the organisation decides where call and user data are stored, for example in a European data centre. The software is not open source and remains dependent on the vendor for updates and support.
