Buildbot is an open-source framework for automating software build, test and release processes. Teams describe their workflow in its configuration, and a master process schedules jobs on distributed workers across different platforms, reporting results through a web interface and other status channels. It covers continuous integration, continuous deployment and release management. Organisations that prefer to run their own build infrastructure instead of a hosted CI service can use it. Buildbot is installed and operated by the user.
Buildbot is distributed under the GNU General Public License version 2. It is maintained as a member project of the Software Freedom Conservancy, a US non-profit charity. Buildbot has no vendor-operated cloud, so data stays on the servers that an organisation runs. For a European organisation the sovereignty question is therefore operational: who runs the masters and workers, and which external repositories and services the pipelines reach. The open licence allows the code to be inspected and modified.
