Clarence is a sovereign, disconnected (air-gapped) cloud with no external network connection. It offers infrastructure dedicated to each client for running complex workloads, including AI, with a cloud experience comparable to public cloud, but in a secure environment under Luxembourg jurisdiction. Clarence is intended for the Luxembourg government through its IT centre CTIE, and more broadly for governments, regulated companies and international organisations in Europe that handle sensitive data.
Clarence SA is a joint venture of LuxConnect, a wholly state-owned Luxembourg company, and Proximus Luxembourg. The platform runs in two LuxConnect Tier IV data centres in Luxembourg and is managed locally. The technology was initially based on Google Cloud, specifically Google Distributed Cloud air-gapped, which does not depend on a connection to Google Cloud. The software is not open source. For a European organisation this means European owners and hosting, but a US technology base; ask how updates and support work in the disconnected environment.
