Crème CRM: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Crème CRM is a configurable CRM package for managing contacts, activities, invoices and sales opportunities. It is built on an entities-and-relationships architecture and written in Python with the Django framework. Organisations use it to record customer relationships and sales processes, and it can also serve as a base for a custom-built CRM. It is delivered as server software that you install yourself, and an online demo is available.

Crème has been developed since 2008 by Hybird, a French limited liability company (SARL) in Marseille. The software is released under the GNU Affero General Public License (AGPL), an open-source licence, and the source code is on GitHub. If you run Crème on your own infrastructure, the data stays with you and nothing is sent to the developer. Hybird also offers a hosted version under the name Crème Vanille; according to the provider, the data is hosted in France. Hybird points to a user club, a forum and a chat channel for the community.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Crème CRM

Crème CRM is headquartered in FR and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Crème CRM scores best on data residency.

Crème CRM is open source. You can audit the source code, self-host the software and keep the encryption keys under your own control. Switching is easier because data and software are not tied to a single party.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Crème CRM together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
