It launched in the United States in 2020 and became available in several European countries during 2024 and 2025 under different names (Max, later HBO Max again). HBO Max is a US service operated by Home Box Office, Inc. in New York. It belonged to Warner Bros. Discovery; according to press reports from October 2026, Paramount has since completed its takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery, which places HBO Max under a US media group. It is proprietary software with no open-source component.
