Kieker is an open-source observability framework for application performance monitoring (APM) and dynamic software analysis. It consists of a monitoring and tracing agent that records the runtime behaviour of a system, and analysis tools that process that data. Developers and operators use it to complement static code analysis with measurements from running systems. Kieker is distributed through Maven repositories; its source code is on GitHub, and the most recent stable release, version 2.0.3, dates from April 2026.
Kieker is licensed under the Apache License 2.0 and is maintained by Kiel University in Germany. It is a library and agent that runs inside an organisation's own applications, so monitoring data stays where the software is deployed. There is no vendor-hosted service or cloud, so no service contract with a provider applies. For a European organisation it is an open and inspectable option, though it requires in-house operating expertise.
