ITRS OP5 Monitor: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

ITRS OP5 Monitor is an IT infrastructure monitoring product for on-premises, public cloud and hybrid environments. It offers a single view of the IT estate, SNMP network monitoring, a REST API for automation, distributed scaling, and SLA and availability reporting. According to ITRS's 2018 announcement, OP5 built the technology by enhancing open-source Nagios, Naemon and ELK components. The vendor says the product remains compatible with Nagios plugins.

OP5 was a Stockholm company that ITRS acquired in 2018. According to that announcement, OP5 remains a separate brand and entity, fully owned by ITRS Group. ITRS Group is headquartered in London, according to its website, and has been majority owned by the private equity investor Montagu since 2021. A European organisation should note that the product is now sold under the ITRS brand, that the vendor website does not state data hosting regions, and that a UK group stands behind the product. Deployment on the organisation's own infrastructure keeps monitoring data under its control.

Why digital sovereignty matters with ITRS OP5 Monitor

ITRS OP5 Monitor is headquartered in GB, outside the EU. Contracts and data therefore also fall under non-European law. The GDPR applies through contractual terms, but in a conflict with local legislation you have less certainty than with a European vendor.

ITRS OP5 Monitor runs on infrastructure you choose and control yourself. You decide where the data lives, including fully within the EU if you want — this is not a fixed hosting choice made by the vendor.

ITRS OP5 Monitor is closed source, but you run the software yourself on your own infrastructure. The encryption keys and the runtime therefore stay under your own control, though you cannot audit or modify the source code. Ask about export options and open standards to limit software-level lock-in.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs ITRS OP5 Monitor together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
