Quackback: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Quackback is an open-source platform for customer feedback and support. Customers submit requests on public or private boards, vote and follow their status. A public roadmap shows planned, in-progress and shipped work, a changelog notifies voters, and a shared inbox handles chat, email and tickets. An AI assistant answers routine questions. Quackback runs as a hosted cloud service or can be operated by the customer with Docker.

The hosted version is operated by Quackback Ltd., whose terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales; no foreign parent company is indicated. The privacy policy names Cloudflare as hosting provider but lists no regions. The software is licensed under AGPL-3.0, and the full product can be self-hosted, leaving infrastructure, security and backups to the organisation. For a European organisation, self-hosting in its own jurisdiction gives the most direct control over data; for the cloud service, the hosting regions should be confirmed.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Quackback

Quackback is headquartered in GB, outside the EU. Contracts and data therefore also fall under non-European law. The GDPR applies through contractual terms, but in a conflict with local legislation you have less certainty than with a European vendor.

Quackback hosts data in EU, OTHER. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Quackback is open source. You can audit the source code, self-host the software and keep the encryption keys under your own control. Switching is easier because data and software are not tied to a single party.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Quackback together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
