Red Hat OpenShift is an application platform with Kubernetes at its core, intended for organisations that build, deploy and run cloud-native applications. It includes CI/CD and operators, serverless, service mesh, observability and OpenShift Virtualization for virtual machines; OpenShift AI adds management of AI models. The platform is available as a self-managed edition on your own infrastructure and as a managed cloud service on AWS (ROSA), Microsoft Azure (ARO), Google Cloud and IBM Cloud.
Red Hat is headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina (US) and has been part of IBM since 2019, which operates it as an independent subsidiary. Red Hat is therefore subject to US jurisdiction, a CLOUD Act signal for European organisations. With the self-managed edition you decide where the environment runs and where the data is stored, for example in a European data centre. For the managed services, the location depends on the chosen cloud provider and region.
