Select Star is a metadata and data catalogue platform. It connects to data warehouses and BI tools to read metadata, query history and activity logs, and builds automated documentation, column-level lineage, entity-relationship diagrams, a business glossary and data access controls. It also offers an MCP server that gives AI agents access to metadata, lineage and semantic models. According to its documentation, it works from metadata rather than data values unless features such as data previews are enabled. It is delivered as software as a service.
Select Star Inc. is a US company. Snowflake, also a US company, announced in November 2025 that it planned to acquire Select Star, and the Select Star website now states that it is part of Snowflake. According to the master subscription agreement, the service runs on Amazon Web Services; no region or EU data residency option is documented. Select Star reports annual SOC 2 audits, but its public pages contain no GDPR statement or data processing agreement. European organisations should ask for these terms and weigh US jurisdiction, including the CLOUD Act.
