Solidatus: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Solidatus is a data lineage and metadata management platform aimed at regulated enterprises. It maps how data flows across systems and transformations, from architecture level down to column level. It provides regulatory overlays such as BCBS 239, DORA, the EU AI Act and GDPR, version control for audit trails, impact analysis and what-if scenarios. An AI assistant drafts mappings, which a person reviews. Solidatus integrates with Snowflake, Databricks, Azure, AWS and Microsoft Purview, among others. It is delivered as SaaS, or on-premises or in a private cloud.

Solidatus is a British company based in London, which also opened a US headquarters in Houston in 2022. Its 2021 Series A was led by AlbionVC, with HSBC Ventures and Citi, both clients, participating. The United Kingdom is outside the EU, so UK law applies. The sources do not name hosting regions for the SaaS version. Choosing an on-premises or private-cloud deployment lets a European organisation keep the metadata in its own environment. The software is proprietary.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Solidatus

Solidatus is headquartered in GB, outside the EU. Contracts and data therefore also fall under non-European law. The GDPR applies through contractual terms, but in a conflict with local legislation you have less certainty than with a European vendor.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Solidatus scores best on data residency.

Solidatus is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Solidatus together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
