Truedat is a data governance solution that helps organisations understand, govern and share their data assets. Its developer describes it as an open source solution, and it is installed in an environment chosen by the customer rather than run as a vendor-hosted service. Its back-end and library components are published on GitHub under open source licences such as EPL-1.0 and GPL-3.0, so a customer's technical team can inspect and maintain the code itself.
Truedat is developed by Bluetab, a data consultancy based in Madrid, Spain. IBM agreed to acquire Bluetab in 2021, and the company now presents itself as Bluetab, an IBM Company, so its ultimate parent is IBM, a US group. Because the software runs on infrastructure the customer controls, the main sovereignty question is operational: who maintains the code and which support contract applies. European organisations should check the licence of each component and the terms of any services agreement with Bluetab or IBM.
