AWS Wickr is an enterprise service for secure communication, aimed at organisations and government agencies. It offers one-to-one and group messaging, audio and video calls, file sharing and screen sharing, with desktop and mobile apps. Administrators set up a Wickr network through the AWS Management Console, configure permissions and ephemeral message timers, and can archive data to a customer-controlled data store. Wickr integrates with Active Directory and with single sign-on via OpenID Connect. It is a managed cloud service; wickr.com now redirects to the AWS page.
Wickr is offered by Amazon Web Services, part of the US company Amazon, and therefore falls under US jurisdiction, including the CLOUD Act. AWS documents end-to-end encryption in which, it states, not even AWS can decrypt the content. Networks can be created in AWS Regions in Europe (Frankfurt, London, Stockholm and Zurich) as well as in the United States, Canada and Asia Pacific. Wickr is not open source. A European region determines where data is located but does not change the US parent company.
