Batfish is an open-source tool for analysing and verifying network configurations. It finds errors in configurations and checks planned or existing network changes, so that problems are identified before they reach production. Network engineers use it to validate planned configurations in advance. The software is released under the Apache 2.0 licence and distributed as source code that organisations can run on their own infrastructure. The most recent release on GitHub dates from August 2026.
Batfish is maintained by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and has been an AWS-managed open-source project since the Intentionet team joined AWS. AWS is part of Amazon.com, Inc., a US company headquartered in Seattle, so the maintainer is subject to US law, including the CLOUD Act. Because the software runs on the organisation's own infrastructure and its source code is open, a European organisation can inspect the code and use it without a vendor-hosted service. The direction of the project is nonetheless set by a US group, which should be weighed in planning how the tool is maintained.
