Be-Inc: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Be-Inc is a contextual writing coach that works inside Microsoft 365 applications such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Teams, with a Google Workspace version in beta. It gives employees real-time suggestions on brand voice, clarity, tone and inclusive language, explains each suggestion and leaves the decision to the writer. Be-Inc is sold to organisations as a subscription service.

Be-Inc B.V. is based in Helmond, the Netherlands; its site names no parent company. According to the vendor, every component that processes text runs in the EU: Microsoft Azure for a safety and personal-data filter, Mistral for the language model and a European Postgres database for the knowledge base. Azure is a service of a US company, so the US CLOUD Act can be relevant even when hosting is in Europe. The vendor says customer texts are not stored or used for training, and a data processing agreement is available. The privacy statement says only that processing takes place within the EEA where possible. Request the security package and fix the regions in the contract.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Be-Inc

Be-Inc is headquartered in the Netherlands and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Be-Inc scores best on data residency.

Be-Inc is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Be-Inc together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
