Conductor is an open-source workflow engine for orchestrating microservices and AI agents. Workflows are versioned, machine-readable graphs, while workers written in languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript, Go and C# run the business logic. Each step is persisted, so workflows can recover from crashes and restarts, with configurable retries and timeouts. Features include branching, loops, parallel execution, sub-workflows, human approval steps and LLM tasks, plus a built-in user interface. You can run Conductor through the CLI, with Docker or from source, using Redis, PostgreSQL or MySQL for persistence.
Conductor was developed at Netflix and released as open source under the Apache 2.0 licence. Orkes, a US company founded by Conductor's creators, is the primary maintainer and also offers a commercial SaaS version, Orkes Conductor, as well as a free hosted Developer Edition. If you self-host, you decide where the data resides. The sources consulted do not name hosting regions for the Orkes services.
