FreeScout is an open-source help desk and shared inbox, positioned as a self-hosted alternative to Zendesk and Help Scout. It collects conversations from email, WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Slack and live chat in one inbox, with unlimited agents, tickets and mailboxes, internal notes, collision detection, mobile apps and an API. Optional modules add features such as a knowledge base, SLA workflows, Kanban boards and SAML single sign-on. FreeScout is built with PHP and Laravel and runs on MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL.
The core software is released under the AGPL-3.0 licence and is installed on your own server, using a web installer, Docker or one-click installers. Organisations therefore decide for themselves where the data is stored and who has access, which makes it possible to keep everything within the EU. Third-party providers also offer managed FreeScout hosting, and the project mentions a cloud-hosted version; in those cases the hosting location depends on the provider. The legal entity behind the project is not stated on its website.
