Libervia is an open communication platform built on XMPP. It combines chat, (micro)blogging, file sharing, photo albums, events, forums and tasks in one environment. Libervia is available as a desktop application, as a web interface and as a command-line tool; an Android version is in development. Recent work includes encrypted audio and video calls and an email gateway, which lets email be read inside the XMPP client.
Libervia is managed by Salut à Toi, a French association founded in 2014 under French law, which is non-profit and independent of companies. The software is free and released under the GNU AGPL-3.0 or later. Because Libervia rests on the open XMPP standard and you can install it yourself, messages and files stay on a server of your choice, and you remain compatible with other XMPP software. The audio and video calls were co-funded through NLnet's NGI Assure fund.
